Teaching activities in previous years

Teaching (in English):

* Course Quantum Theory (Fall 2008): Text books and course description (link no longer available).

(March 31, 2009) The exam of March 26 has been graded.
The results can be seen at the Educatief Centrum (Educational Administrative Centre) on the first floor of the Huygens Lab.
If desired, the exam work can be collected and/or discussed with the lecturer.

(Feb. 17, 2009) A retake of the exam (hertentamen) will be organized on:
Thursday March 26, 2009, 14-17h, in HL214.
Material to be studied and format are the same as for the exam of Jan.15.
The exam of Jan.15, 2009, can be found here, besides two exams of previous years.

(Feb. 4, 2009) A retake of the exam (hertentamen) is considered. If there is sufficient interest, it would take place in the second half of March 2009. If you are interested in a retake/hertentamen make this known to the lecturer (e.g. by sending an e-mail).

(Jan. 21, 2009) The exam of January 15 has been graded.
Summary: 23 participants handed in their work; 17 passed (grade higher than or equal to 6); average number of grade points per handed-in work: 59 (out of 100).
The results can be seen at the Educatief Centrum (Educational Administrative Centre) on the first floor of the Huygens Lab.
If desired, the exam work can be collected and/or discussed with the lecturer.

(Dec. 10, 2008) The material to be studied for the exam is described here. Two examples of previous QT exams are also given.

(Nov.25, 2008) At the lecture of Dec.2, a hand-out with introductory material on the last topic of the course, Path Integrals, will be available.

(Nov.25, 2008) Full, final version of Lecture notes on Second Quantization (lnla: link no longer available).

(Nov.18, 2008) Lecture notes on Second Quantization covering the lectures up to Nov.18 (lnla).

(Nov.11, 2008) Lecture notes on Second Quantization covering the lectures up to Nov.11 (lnla).

(Nov.4, 2008) Lecture notes on Second Quantization covering lecture of Nov.4 (lnla) (and a little more to be able to do Problem 27 of Problem set 5).

(Nov.3, 2008) In the lectures, we are almost done with the part of the course using the book by Le Bellac. In the lecture of Nov.4, some finalizing remarks on Ch.11 will be made and we will start the topic of Second Quantization. This part of the course will be mostly based on lecture notes by the lecturer that will appear here in the coming weeks.

(Oct.14, 2008) Today the highlights/essentials of Chapter 7 (infinite-dimensional Hilbert spaces) and Chapter 8 (symmetries) were discussed. Next lecture will discuss section 9.1 of Chapter 9 and will continue with Chapter 11 (quantization of scalar and vector fields).

(Oct.1, 2008) Please note that the problem sessions start at 11:00h (even though the schedule has it listed at 11:15h); this means extra time to ask your questions!

(Sep.30, 2008) Todays lecture started with Chapter 6 on entangled states and the state operator; next week we continue with Chapter 6 and finish the last part of Chapter 4.

(Sep.30, 2008) A worked-out solution to one of the problems of Problem session 1 is posted (see below). We plan to post more solutions in due course.

(Aug.15, 2008) First problem session QT: Thursday Sept. 18, 2008, in HL204 (11-13h)

(Aug.15, 2008) First lecture QT: Tuesday Sept. 9, 2008, in HL204 (11.15-13h)

(Aug.15, 2008) The course Quantum Theory in Fall 2008 will resemble that of Fall 2007 (see below), but will differ in details. In particular, the text book is again Quantum Physics by M. Le Bellac. More information will follow here.
